For all of you who saw "contest" in my subject line and thought, "Not another one, Jeaniene!" - I don't blame you :). Yes, I've been doing a lot of contests in the past couple weeks leading up to my new release, but this is different.
Most of you know the book industry, like many other industries, has been suffering due to the recession. Many people have participated in the "buy a book" informal campaign encouraging people to go out and get a book, even if it's just one. I'm all for this, of course, but times are tough. Some people who might want to buy a book for themselves, or someone else, simply can't right now. With the holidays looming, things can get even tighter. Hey, I've been known to browse book stores, staring lustfully at the new releases or titles by my favorite authors, thinking, "No, I have to wait until my next paycheck...or the next one."
Well, I've been lucky this year. I'm not rolling in money by any means, but my husband isn't one of the many workers laid off due to company downsizing, and we weren't one of the families with an adjustable rate mortgage that exploded, causing foreclosure. Plus, thanks to reader response, my publisher extended my contract this year. So having both me and my husband employed with a roof over our heads makes me feel very grateful.
Which bring me to the point of my post (at last, right? ;). To celebrate the holidays and the Buy A Book campaign, I'm holding a contest. There will be ten winners chosen at random. Those ten winners will receive a $10.00 gift certificate to the book seller of their choice - as long as I can purchase the gift certificates online. Now, I wish I could up the number of winners - or the amount of the gift certificate - but as I said, I'm not rolling in money. $10.00 might not buy someone their favorite new hardcover, but it can buy most paperbacks or be put toward a hardcover. Or re-gift it to someone else. Whatever the winners want to do with it is fine by me.
Because of exchange rates, international shipping rates, etc., I'm going to have to limit this contest to US residents only. I hate to do that, because I love my international readers just as much as my US ones, but those who've participated in my contests before know if I'm giving a book away, I always include international readers. This time, I won't be able to. Please accept my apologies.
To enter: all you need to do is email me at frostlight1 AT yahoo DOT com with the subject line of "Buy A Book campaign". Please be sure to include your name for when I announce the winners. Contest opens now and will end Friday, December 12th, at midnight (Eastern time). That way, it gives me time to ship the gift certificates to the winners before the holidays are over.
Best of luck to everyone! Let's spread a little book love around :)
