Procrastination - but it was fun

Okay, I'm supposed to be writing, but then I saw this video  (warning: sound!)  and thought it was so fun that I couldn't resist playing the same "casting" game for my series (side note: I don't know the person who made that video, but people's enthusiasm for my books astounds me).

So, if I had to pick right now from Hollywood's list of stars who I'd cast as characters in my series, here are my picks. Disclaimer: since it's impossible for me to make up my mind, I'm picking two people for each role.
CAT:  Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johanson. Of course, both women would have to dye their hair red first. Why not someone who looks tougher? Because that's part of Cat's disguise - she doesn't look like a bad-ass. She looks lovely and feminine...right up until she twists a silver stake in someone's heart.
BONES: Terribly terribly hard to nail down, but here goes. James Franco and Orlando Bloom. Why? Look at the luscious cheekbones on those men! Yummy. And they have that lean muscled look I picture on Bones, plus the dark brown eyes.
TATE: Brad Pitt and Thomas Jane. Why? Brad has Tate's average-guy-but-prettier look, while Thomas better portrays Tate's hardness as a soldier.
JUAN: Edgar Ramirez and Antonio Banderas. Edgar has Juan's sexiness down pat, but Antonio personifies more of his humor and playfulness.
COOPER:  Djimon Hounsou and Will Smith. Djimon has Cooper's size and intensity, while Will is better for Cooper's agility and attitude.
DAVE: Patrick Dempsey and Joaquin Phoenix. Patrick has Dave's Everyman appeal, while Joaquin shows more of Dave's toughness.
RODNEY: Ben Affleck and Russell Crowe. Ben has Rodney's strength, while Russell (I'm thinking specifically of Russell in the movie MYSTERY, ALASKA) has more of his charm and laid-back attitude.
DENISE: Kate Beckinsale and  Natalie Portman. Kate and Natalie both are good examples of Denise's looks, but Natalie has more of her down-to-earth appeal.

JUSTINA: Readers usually think of Justina as older or unattractive (possibly because of her personality) but Andi McDowell and Linda Fiorentino show Justina as the beautiful - albeit dysfunctional - woman she is. Andi has Justina's beauty, while Linda has her watch-out-scary-bitch attitude.

SPADE: Hugh Jackman and Jude Law. Both men are gorgeous, though Hugh has more of Spade's charisma while Jude has his wicked side.
IAN: Again, picuture both actors with auburn hair. Samuel Le Bihan (specifically, from BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF) and Colin Farrell. Samuel has Ian's dangerous sexiness, and Colin has more of Ian's really gorgeous looks.
DON: Harrison Ford and Christopher Walken. Both men have Don's manipulativeness and yet deep-buried softer side.

MAX: Gabriel Byrne and Gerard Butler. Gabriel (in the movie END OF DAYS) just seethed the kind of menace Max has, but Gerard shows that being bad doesn't mean you're not beautiful.

Annette: (I'll agree with the podcaster on this :). Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet. Nicole has Annette's yowsa-type beauty, while Kate shows more of the curvy figure and sex appeal mixed with British manners.

Mencheres:  (I actually just picked one actor for him, but here's two pics of Oded Fehr, because he's HOT).

If you want to play along, feel free to consider yourself tagged to cast your own book characters in a new post :-)

Mmm...Oded...grrr...where was I? Oh! That's right! I was rather impressed with the Youtube casting. A lot of the sites that have Dream Casts disappoint me (I'm a little opinionated), but I really enjoyed that. Okay, now I have to go stare at Oded some more...

Mencheres is suddenly much more appealing. (read smokin')

When I came across that vid I fangirled a little bit. :D

Given that I have two production companies interested in Hulk Hercules, I may well indulge. After I've written it. ;)

I really would like Dwayne Johnson to play Uncle Leo. That much I know.

I watched the video and I must say that your cast is so much better. Thanks for the images of the characters.

love it!

I'm in a daze from all that gorgeousness that I don't dare even attempt at being coherent! LOL

I think I like James Franco for Bones, and I think Scarlett Johanson makes a better Cat than Jessica Alba. But wow! Fantastic selections, Jeaniene!

I totally agree with you re: Scarlett. Jessica Alba's coloring really doesn't make her believable as a redhead at all, but Scarlett does (and in fact, if you've seen Girl With The Pearl Earring, has) pull it off.

Great casting choices! I support Jessica Alba as Cat b/c I adore her. I've tried to come up with casting for books I like and I always find some sort of a fault with an actor that keeps me from creating a usable list *shrugs* Oh well. Oh! And the pictures were a nice touch, I appreciated that haha

OK and here I was about to submit a pic of Oded Fehr for Mencheres... Oh well I'll do it anyway... Cause he's too hot to only have 2 pics...

I have to say, I've always pictured Spade as like Ben Barnes. meeooooow. >:)

Oded needs more movies. he's always awesome (and pretty).

I've pictured Bones as older than James Franco, though. *thinks* I'm not sure WHO I picture him as...but it's not either of those guys. I shall have to give it some thought.

Rachel Nichols as Scarlett in the new GI Joe movie fits the bill in an almost scary way:

oh god, I LOVE Oded Fehr. Especially with the facial tattoos from The Mummy..YUM! I love tattoos.. LOL.

I think Scarlett Johanson would make and AWESOME Cat, mostly because of her facial structure.

You must have been channeling Brad Pitt when you wrote Tate, 'cause I totally pictured him during the second book. :O

And Oded!!! ♥

Michael Pitt should be bones!
Sep. 29th, 2008 02:13 am (UTC)
James Franco is soooo good looking.

Actress for Cat
Amanda Rhigetti: http://blog.filmjabber.com/2008/04/04/amanda-righetti-pictures-and-who-the-heck-is-she/

Pretty much exactly how I pictured Cat.

Don't know if she can act (she's in 'The Mentalist', but not a lot going on yet...)

Okay -

Cat: I can definetly see Jessica Alba playing this part except for the fact that I picture her taller besides that I think that she is perfect. (She can play bad kick ass chick - Dark Angel)

Bones: Orlando Bloom - yessssssssssss! Finally someone else who appreciates him.

As for the rest - I like your choices all except for
Dave - David Boreanz (I just love him - tough and funny)
Rodney - I think that Stephen Moyer would be very good here.

Quick question, did you see the thread we have going at Frost Cemetery? There were some good picks up there too.

I like Jessica Alba as Cat. She can play tough, whereas I can't see Scarlett being as tough. But maybe that's just because I haven't seen enough of her acting yet.

Oh my god!!! Orlando Bloom as Bones. Nice. Although, I kinda like Jason Lewis too.

Will Smith and Patrick Dempshey....both are just hot.

Christopher Walken!! Anything with Walken is a goldmine. He is one hilarious actor and he can do the bad guy perfectly.

Marta Acosta has a thing for Gerald Butler too.

I like Kate Winslet. She has the sophistication down and I think it would be amusing to see her in the "cat" fight in OFITG.

Who is Oded Fehr? He is hot!
Sep. 30th, 2008 12:43 am (UTC)
I can see Gerard in any of the vampire roles. Yum! It would be fun to see him in a really wicked role.

Oded is a really underused actor. I would love to see him in it too.

We are going to see these books in living color. Aren't we?

How about Milla Javovich for Cat? I think the look in her eyes is perfect. She could easily do red hair and have it look very natural.

I know as she is a "little" older than Cat is supposed to be (she is 33), but I think she looks younger.

Okay, I will stop now. :D

Re: my youtube video!
I thought your YouTube video was SO COOL! I'm technically inept, so I couldn't even begin to do one of those myself, lol.

Nice to meet you, and glad you liked the books! :)
