On Friday I received the good news that not only did ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE make the New York Times, Borders, and USA Today bestseller list, it also debuted at # 11 on the Publisher's Weekly bestseller list. This, of course, I thought was way cool.
What has me in full-on fangirl squees, though, is the picture
melissa_writing just faxed me. On page 18 of this week's Publishers Weekly, it has the Mass Market bestseller list, plus four authors highlights with their books covers and short bio blurbs on the side. ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE is one of those books highlighted on the side, right under Dean Koontz's latest paperback release of THE GOOD GUY.
*pause*
To appreciate why this sent me into rhapsodies, you'd have to know what a HUUUUUUUUGGGEEEEEEEE Dean Koontz fan I am. I've read him for over a decade, and the only thing I love more than his books is his story of how he broke into publishing. He's my literary idol among writers who are still alive today. To see my little book featured under something of his makes me want to squeal and burst into tears at the same time.
I will be buying this issue of Publishers Weekly, framing it, and hanging it on my wall.
Who would you most like to see a picture of your book under one day, if you could pick? Who's your (living :) literary idol?

Never the twain shall meet, I imagine, but a gal can dream.
I'm not even a writer, but I could pretend I am and then maybe dream of seeing a picture of my book under Stephenie Meyer or J.K. Rowling. LOL I guess in my dreams, I'm probably a YA author, huh? ;)
Stephen King is my idol. If I ever met him, I would faint.
Better watch out when I meet you because will faint also. :D
ADORE her work!
For me it's Jim Butcher.
Aww, you're too sweet!
congrats! <3
Catherine
For me, even though I write YA (so JKR, of course) - but, P.D. James - yeah!
Congratulations, I told you not to worry and that Bones would pull thru for you! Trust in the greatness that is Bones (and Cat, too). <3
Stephen King. Yeah, if I was listed under him, it would be enlarged, framed, and put behind bullet proof glass. =)
Hey, that's what I'm doing with the Koontz page, lol.
And that is utterly awesome news!
I've been reading her books for over a decade, and am chomping at the bit for book 6 while salivating at the rumors of a 7th. Speaking of... I need to go look a few things up....
*heads off to fandom searches*
Well, right now I'm pretty much amazed by Cormac McCarthy. I don't think I've ever been as amazed by a a single writer. If there were a way to study writing under him in person, I would do it (right now I content myself by tearing his writing apart line by line.) I guess he would be my choice for that picture you mention.
Congratulations on the best seller list, btw. I knew something was up. I was in B&N last night and your book was displayed prominently on the end caps, and I was like -- "Go, Frost, go!" :)
It's hard for me to choose just one. I'm staring at my book shelf now, trying to pick just one..give me a sec....(insert Jeopardy theme song here)....Okay, it's probably going to have to be Laurell K. Hamilton. Guilty Pleasures was the first ever Urban Fantasy book I picked up. Though I've read my entire life, UF is my obsession and it's all her fault! LOL
Now, I think if my mame were ever in print anywhere near Charles de Lint or Neil Gaiman I'd have to be rushed to the hospital. :-)
Sorry to admit that I haven't read the novel yet, I'm saving it for vacation next week. But the Harley on the cover made me snatch it off the shelves.
Did you know that the passenger backrest style is called a tombstone? And that the jiffy stand is on the wrong side of the motorcycle? H-D puts them on the left. Dyna Low Riders don't do off-road well at all. I scrape going over a speed bump in a parking lot, Ghwyenn is so low, and I probably weigh less than Cat does... Why she took her H-D off the pavement is going to take some serious explaining.
Hope you like the book!
