Being a naughty girl...

  • Apr. 30th, 2008 at 12:18 PM

So, on my last day as a guest at Romance Novel TV, I'm going to stir up a little trouble *cue evil laughter*.

Here's the question I just posed to the forum:

Those of you who read ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, what did you think about Chapter 32? (and you KNOW what I'm talking about if you read it Wink). Frankly I wrote that scene before I even acquired an agent, so I never thought it would see the light of day. Then I thought my agent would recommend I censure it when I sent her the book (she didn't). Then I was SURE my editor would make me tone things down when she got her hands on it (she didn't either). Then I had a mild panic at the thought of it being public and tried to talk my editor into letting me tone it down during revisions (she said Oh Hell No).

So...anyone who wants to ante up, did that sex scene read as too taboo/graphic/? Or did you think it fit the sequence and liked to see a little nookie with a side of nasty? Wink

Go HERE  to tell me what you thought!!

The sex doesn't read as too taboo/graphic. If anything I liked that it wasn't gritty and nasty. It was a little rough, but then again -- who likes to be 'safe' all the time? Given Bones's history, I rather liked how you worked it into the scene. (It's not some over-long, drawn out conversation where he has to either play 'confessional' or does an 'oh, by the way...')

Given the lead up to the sex scene, I don't understand why you'd want to 'tone it down'. Cat asked for demanded, and Bones gave her what she said she wanted.

I wouldn't change the scene. Not one word.

it was all good to me.
i believe that's why we read those kinds of books and not cozy mysteries. the cozy has watered down sexual relations between the characters to the point that i think everyone in those books is an asexual drone.
anyway back to your question NO it was not over the top it was just enough to get the idea across and tastefully done at that. thanks
P.S. going out today to get number 2

HAWT!!
You know what I think Jeaniene. I have read some mundane blah blah sex scenes lately, but that one between Bones and Cat was smoking hot! It should how Bones truly felt about Cat.
No tone down needed :D

LOVED Chapter 32. Smoking HOT.

In fact.... the next time I reread it, every time I come across a 'Cat', I'm going to cross it out and replace it with a 'Christine.' Enough said. ;p

I suspect a confidential source may have told me what Chapter 32 contains, but it wouldn't be fair to comment on it without having read it myself. :)

IT was FTW. Seriously. I had a thought like, "Whoa". It is probably one of the most tasteful "wild" sex scenes I've ever read. When you're writing some "non-traiditonal" sex scenes it can come off nasty as you said...but that doesn't apply in this case. Not. At. All. :D

HAWT. But I already told you that, right?

Nah nah nah...

La la la la la...

Not reading any of this, post or comments. Amazon says my copy should be with me tomorrow and I'm on a mission of Spoiler Avoidance.

you and I spoke about this before. I think it was where it should be. I mean come on he's a vamp that's been around the block what would she expect? I think you tackled a somewhat difficult subject tactfully.

I think you wrote a scene true to the characters and the story. It fit. I can't imagine a toned down scene working nearly as well. But I must say; damn, you don't play around. :)
It was great.

It was definitely hot and really showed the love between the two of them too. They both went all out with each other and no embarrassment what-so-ever. There was that trust in that scene that I think we needed as well.

But damn, I need me a Bones or a Tate, I'm not choosy:)

I've read the book all the way through.

then reread chapter 32 a few more times. I mean wow. The eb and flow between the two characters and the tension that built up to that point. All I can say is brava to giving carte blanche to the vamp. hehehe.

now I can't wait for my friend to get to that point so I get the squealing phone call.

Just finished the book. Read it on one sitting and loved it even more than I loved Halfway! Absolutely wonderful!

And Chapter 32 is superb and just perfect.

great scene
I think you did a great job with the scene. Not trashy maybe a little wild but not trashy! Loved it in an earlier chapter and Bones told her " kitten now you're just daring me" ( not exact quote) but loved it !!!

Okay, so I finally got a hold of the book and read it last night. HOLY CROW! I have to agree with my mom who proclaims it as one of the best books ever. That chapter was the most amazing thing I've ever read. Wow.

It is possibly the hottest thing I've ever read in all of my life. Thank you so much! :D

I wouldn't change a thing to be honest. It was a little dip into the wild side that I think just about everyone was waiting for. It was a tasteful dive into the erotic side of romance. Very well written indeed. One of the best romance scene I've read in a long time.
