Name Those Characters to win my book!

  • Sep. 12th, 2007 at 7:21 PM

Well, folks, it's about 6 weeks until HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE releases (out October 30th, even though I lie and tell myself that's not the case so as to ward off panic).

But back to the point. For those of you who've thought, "I don't want to wait until Halloween, I want to read HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE now!" or thought, "I wouldn't read that book unless it was free!"...*giggle*...I have good news for you. I'm giving away a signed ARC of HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE.

I'm holding a contest called Name Those Characters. See, a lot of the vampires in my books rename themselves once they've crossed over from human to bloodsucker (can you blame them? Look at what some people were cursed with by their parents! ;) and I have a hard time coming up with decent aliases for all of them. Damn that Stan Lee and all the cool names he's already utilized! So I am seeking help from you, and dangling a book to try and benefit from your creativity. Help me name some vamps. They're getting pissed because I'm coming up with dull, stupid names, and I don't want a bunch of undead folks angry at me even if they don't exist.

So how do you play? Email me at frostlight1@yahoo.com with a cool/badass/funny/serious name and why the vampire might have chosen it. Be sure to include the email address you want me to reply to, if it's different than the one you're emailing me from. The gender for the names can be male or female.

Here are some examples:

(1: serious) One of my vampires renamed himself Spade, because back in the 1700's when he was human, he was a South Wales penal colony prisoner and the overseer only referred to the prisoners by their assigned tool (so this isn't a racial slur, a spade is a shovel) instead of their names. So after turning into a vampire, this character chose to keep that derogatory name his overseer had used, so he'd never forget how helpless he'd once been.

(2: funny) Another vampire character renamed himself Bandaid, because when he bites someone, it's ouchless.

(3: badass) A mercenary vampire named himself Scythe, after the Grim Reaper's favorite weapon.

(4: cool) I got nothin', folks, HELP!

If I fall in love with more than one name, I'll give away up to two advance copies of HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE to the second and third runner-ups. I don't have advance author copies yet, but my publisher tells me I'll be getting them soon.

***A disclaimer: My book, much like my heroine, is a hybrid of two species. It's a cross between an urban fantasy and a paranormal romance, but it's neither fully one or the other. What is does have is action, romance, danger, sex, violence, and profanity, and you can bet I didn't pull my punches with any of the above. Consider yourself warned - and hopefully enticed ;)  Need more info? Read an excerpt of Chapter One here, or go here to see reviews.

The contest will start now and end on Friday, September 28th at midnight (Eastern time).

There are no exclusions as far as where I'll ship to. If you win, I'll ship to you no matter where in the world you live.

*Further disclaimer: You understand that if you win, I'm going to use the really funny/cool/badass/serious name you came up with in one of my books. So please don't email me later and say, "Wait! I changed my mind and now I want to keep that for my own funky cross-genre novel!" If you don't win, feel free to take back ownership of your entry. I won't filch beyond what I announce as the winner or winners. You can submit as many names as you like, or just one.

And if you think, "Oh, I can't come up with anything good," try anyway! It'll be fun.

Questions? Ask away!

Clooney, Damon, Penn.

The last names of celebs works better than the first, IMO. (At least these do anyway.)

Of course there is always Brad. (Last name not so cool as a first name.)

And don't forget Gerard! My favorite big screen vamp ever. HOT, Cool, and HOT. And don't forget HOT.
